feature article

/ˌfitʃər ˌɑrdəkəl/
IPA guide

Other forms: feature articles

A feature article is a long, non-fiction piece of writing. If you're short on time, you might just skim the feature article about your town's new playground and the person who raised the money to build it.

A feature article doesn't just state the facts but goes into great detail about the people involved in the story, using a narrative structure that's similar to fiction. A profile of a marathoner, the story of a struggling mining town, or the saga of a clash between dog owners and dog haters on a local beach could all be feature articles in a magazine or newspaper. It's called a feature because of its prominent place in the publication.
